Product Information

Here are some common questions we get asked about our reusable painting products.

Where can I buy the Repaint Tray?

The Repaint Tray is only available on our website, but will be available in select Lowe's stores and on lowes.com sometime in 2024. Dates are still TBD.

What size is the Repaint Tray?

The Repaint Tray is a 1 qt. paint tray that fits a 9' roller.

Dimensions: 11.5" x 16" x 3"

*If you are from Canada, please keep in mind that the Repaint Tray does not fit a 9.5" roller.

What paints & primers are compatible with the Repaint Tray?

Our reusable paint trays are compatible with these paints:

  • Water-based
  • Latex-based
  • Acrylic & acrylic based
  • Chalk paint
  • Milk paint
  • Ceiling paint
  • Mold killing paints/primers
  • Craft or kids paints
  • Water-based primer
  • Shellac-based primer
  • Water-based stains
  • Water-based polycrylic
  • Wood glue
  • Mod Podge
  • Wallpaper paste
What paints & primers are not compatible?

Our Repaint Trays are NOT compatible with:

  • Oil-based paints & primers
  • Oil-based stains
  • Oil-based Polyurethane
  • Varnish
  • Paint removing solvents
Can I use the Repaint Tray with more than just paint?

Absolutely! Our reusable paint trays are also compatible with:

  • Water-based stains
  • Water-based polycrylic
  • Water-based polyurethane
  • Wood glue
  • Mod Podge
  • Wallpaper paste
How do I know if my paint, primer or stain isn't compatible with the Repaint Tray?

If you are unsure whether or not you can use your Repaint Tray with a paint, primer or solvent not listed, then it's always good to do a test spot.

Add a small amount of paint, primer, stain or glue to your paint tray liner. If the liner begins to warp or bubble, then it is not compatible with the Repaint Tray.

Don't fret! Simply let the paint dry in the liner like you normally would and peel it out once it is dried. The test spot will go back to its original shape after a few days.

What is the Repaint Tray made from?

The Repaint Tray's reusable liners and lids are made from high-quality, durable silicone materials.

Will you have other paint tray sizes and products?

Yes! We have high hopes and dreams to introduce and create additional eco-friendly and reusable painting products.

This includes Repaint Tray minis for trim work and paint touch ups, as well as larger versions for 12" paint rollers and up.

It takes a lot of time to create new products, so please be patient with us as we work on releasing additional reusable paint tray combos.

Product Maintenance and Care

How to take care of your Repaint Tray so it lasts you through a lifetime of painting and DIY projects.

How long can paint stay in my Repaint Tray?

Paint will remain fresh up to 21 days with a proper air-tight seal.

The more paint in the reservoir, the longer it will keep. With minimal or thin paint, there is a higher likelihood of it drying out sooner.

What's the best way to wash my liner and lid?

Once you have peeled out the dried paint, simply wash your Repaint Tray with warm water, dish soap and a sponge or scrubbing brush.

How long can I keep dried paint in my tray liner?

As long as you want.

Paint will still be removable from your paint tray lids and liners even after months of not being used.

My paint isn't peeling like your videos. What am I doing wrong?

Not all paint peels the same! Thin amounts of paint, will be harder to peel and may not come up in once piece.

Some paints such as primers, chalk paint, and ceiling paint have more of a chalky finish so once it is dried, it may be more crumbly.

The best way to remove crumbly dried paint, is to roll-up or crumple your Repaint liner or lid and it will break away the paint. Then shake the dried paint into the garbage and wash with soap and water as you normally would.

What is the proper way to seal my paint tray lid?

Think of your Repaint lid like Tupperware for your paint.

  1. Place the paint tray lid on your tray and make sure it is secure on all 4 corners.
  2. Lift up the bottom left tab.
  3. While lifting the corner tab, lightly press the center of your paint tray lid removing any air.
  4. Then close the lid making sure all four corners are still tightly secured.
  5. Voila! You now have an air-tight seal on your Repaint Tray.

Sustainability

Our goal is to paint a greener and brighter future for generations to come.

What makes your paint trays eco-friendly?

Silicone is a versatile material that is used for multiple products on the market such as baby toys, cooking tools, medical tech and now paint tray liners and lids!

Silicone is non-toxic and less harmful to aquatic and soil organisms and isn't considered hazardous waste compared to traditional single-use plastic liners with paint remaining in them.

Because the Repaint Tray can be reused, you'll likely only need one paint tray for the rest of your life (A.K.A. less plastic and less waste ending up in landfills!)

In addition, the Repaint Tray liner and lid are recyclable through our recycling program.

In general, silicone is considered a more eco-friendly choice of materials when compared to current paint tray options on the market.

Not to mention, it means less plastic in your home and you're helping contribute to a more sustainable future.

If you want to learn more about silicone and how it is a more sustainable alternative, you can read our recent blog here.

How is it recyclable?

Silicone is recyclable even after a lifetime of use.

With our silicone recycling program, we will take your old or damaged Repaint Tray liners and lids and send them to a proper recycling facility.

If you want to learn more about silicone materials and our recycling program, please visit our recycling page.

How does your recycling program work?

Contact us through our Recycling page and fill out the form, or send us an email at recycle@repaintstudios.com

Once we review your recycle request, we will send you instructions and a shipping label to return your liner and/or lid.

PLEASE DO NOT put your Repaint liner or lids into your recycling bins. Silicone needs to be recycled through a specific recycling facility.

What are the recycled materials made into?

At Repaint Studios, we recycle our paint tray liners and lids with Terra Cycle who can properly recycle silicone materials to be made into rubber surfaces for inclusive playgrounds for children with disabilities.

In addition, recycled silicone parts can also be made into park benches and playground mulch.
